'Coral Reef' Cherry & Resin Coffee Table
Please scroll down to the bottom of the page if you would like to see a video of the table.
This has been a real passion project. I had a vision of it when I first saw the piece of wood and it has taken me well over a year to realise that vision, with plenty of disasters and starting again along the way!
I’m delighted with the final result.
This is my interpretation of a waves hitting a coral reef and gently flowing onto the golden sands of a beach.
The piece of cherry with it’s golden colours and beautiful lines of grain plays the perfect part as the beach. It has a natural lip which was perfect to create the coral reef for the resin ocean to hit.
I created the effect of the surf hitting the reef under water by allowing the resin to half-cure and then applying more pressure on the wood which pushed the resin up from under the reef shelf. This created bubbles and eddys in the half-cured resin pushing through the resin that was there already to create the surf.
Finished with a natural organic oil and raw steel legs to keep the nature theme.
Length - 88
Width - 48cm at widest point and 35cm at narrowest point
